| I always wind up somehow getting off working a night shift or sitting with nothing else on but MTV late at night or during the day... whatnot... and end up glued to the television watching MTV. Now, most of the time it is because I'm too disgusted by the show to turn it off and I'm trying to induce vomiting. Superficiality is the name of the game... and these are the shows I see how long I can watch before I go homocidal.
MY SUPER SWEET 16 - I heard this morning a quote that Confuscius or Mencius themselves couldn't comprehend. "Everybody thinks we're all daddy's girls and are mackin' on me cause my daddy is spending 5 million on my party" Yes baby, get that coffee enima you've always dreamt of. This show is basically 16 year old brats going through mid-life mid-financial crisis before they go to college and have sex with random people they don't know. Yes... GO OUT WITH A BANG.
MTV PIMP MY CAR - Yes... because we all know we want the cops to pull us over and search our car... trying to explain why we have a fish tank built in under our dash. Or the cordless internet uploadable multi-speed GPS navigated vibrator that doubles as a gel pen... or some damn shit. Xzibit you still my dawg right? Ezibit.... er.... Zib... zippit.
LAGUNA BEACH (ALL SEASONS) - Ever been so drunk or bored that you wanted to sleep or have a total memory loss? This is the show to watch. It follows around a group of girls and their life... their boring pointless life... yeah. I watch it cause I like blondes. I also like those pink lawn ornaments... flamingos... yeah... flamingos rock!
PARENTAL CHECK - The parents hate their offspring's signifigant other... or is it soon to be insignifigant other? What better way for your parents to wreck your relationship than by bringing in two other strangers and making you go on a date with them. Better yet, lets make it three other strangers. Better yet... make that person watch the date with the parents. But see... I'd like for once to see them passing around a joint while watching. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?!?!?!?!!?
RICH GIRLS - Ever wonder how the other half live? Ever wonder why celibacy is so awesome? This show is probably the reason.
SPANKIN' FREE MUSIC WEEK - Because the only people who are still watching Fergie these day ususally are.
YO MOMMA - A little girl at work said, "Yo dats bangin'" and I've been hooked ever since. A funny show if you have $50 and a 9mm to stick in your mouth. Which is what most of these people should do if they think their comeback is fly... yo. I still picture Tony Montana watching this show lmao.
ROOM RAIDERS - If a girl went in my room... dude I could never win on this show so why even say anything. I can hear it now. "Room number two, I thought all the leather was a little creepy." Well.... come to my basement and I shall show you my drill press and my radial arm saw. bwhahaha
NEXT - I hate this show because I know I would last 5 seconds before I'd railroad it. This show is so STUPID and it makes me want to jump off a bridge. Can they honestly find anybody stupider than these people.
EXPOSED - I watched this one last night. What a concept. Two guys competeing for a girl on a date. But oh, here is the catch, she has a lie detector on them both and her "homegirl" is in the truck picking up the tab. It is like watching Animal Planet's top 10.
WHY CAN'T I BE YOU? - Oh god this show is so retarded. Somebody like some geeky girl wants to be like the popular girl. Or like a celebrity, and MTV steps up to the plate and lets them bask and bake... even broil in all that superficial warm yummy goodness.
SORORITY LIFE - A bunch of hormone ridden girls getting laid while trying to resist the urge to see how much alcohol it takes to do one of those Girls Gone Wild moments.
THE HILLS - A bunch of girls who has a spin off from Laguna Beach. Basically, this show consists of them bitching about their lives "after highschool" where they try to live off their baby phat before some Prince Charming sweeps them off their feet and into trailer park obscurity.
MY OWN - Obcession is the word. This show centers around people who are obcessed with a celebrity and will do ANYTHING to go spend some quality time with them.
THE SHOP - This show is based on, yes you guessed it, the movie Barber Shop. But this takes place in Jamaica mon... and dis be da show you want to miss.
ROB AND BIG - This show I actually like. And only because the dog is the most intellegent one on there.
DATE MY MOM - The show that changed the whole meaning of the word... or technically acroymnymemsnenmen acronymn... shit ok... MILF
SPRING BREAK - Yes, you've removed your top, and you've got not one but two breasts. You're part of the human population and obviously female, do you want me to print you out a nice little award on my computer? No... well go get me a rum and coke while you're up. When I was in college, spring break was crazy but nothing like this stupid shit on here. I've been to Seaside Heights New Jersey... and it was nothing like that. But the hookers and drug addicts that try hitting you up for money. I saw that. lol
LEMMINGS - Ok... so it's not a show. But I heard it is coming up and in the plans. We take several people from different walks of life. We need a sporty girl, a black dude, a lesbian, a gay guy, somebody who is everybody friend. Put them on the edge of a cliff with a bunch of rodents and see... what happens.
Yeah that's it for now. Send the rum and the... blank checks to me. Yes... I'm not fond of any of these things. I'm as Jimi Hendrix would say... "not necessarily stoned but beautiful." So yeah... keep on shining... keep on dreaming people. And remember you don't need to be like anybody other than yourselves. Because if there is one thing about these shows that runs in common with your favorite Communist regime, it is lack of individuality.
| A little University style reading on the chapter of Friendship from Gibran's book The Prophet. And a youth said, "Speak to us of Friendship."
Your friend is your needs answered.
He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving.
And he is your board and your fireside.
For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.
When your friend speaks his mind you fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you withhold the "ay."
And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart;
For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.
When you part from your friend, you grieve not;
For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.
For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.
And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.
For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.
| Once, when I was going to the Community College, I stopped by the smoking lounge to see who was in there. I don't smoke, but it was a nice distraction for me, and I had a lot of friends in there. This particular day, however, nobody was in there, and I took a deep sigh. This was going to be a long boring day. A REALLY long boring day. There was one old man sitting over in the corner, and he had been there for what seemed like days. He had on a trucker's cap and a strange shirt that I doubted he had been in the marathon that it mentioned. He was well into his 60s, and it puzzled me that he was there. People were talking, lots of people, but he sat alone. Then he motioned for me to come over to him. "You are blood." he said to me, looking at me with a depth I couldn't place, "I saw you over there, brother. Come, lets talk about your journey." "My journey?" I looked puzzled. Of course, I knew that he had seen my medicine bag and knew that I was a member of the Deleware Tribe. Then he said something very unusual to me. "Who are you, little brother?" I began to tell him how I'm going to college, and information about myself. I told him about the tribe I belonged to. I mentioned a number of things. His response, always the same. "No, who are you little brother?" I grew tired of it and finally asked him what he meant by the strange comment. His answer was soft spoken, "When I ask you who you are, I do not mean like these white men do. You walk the red path. You see everybody around you as sacred. I see it in your eyes. Your soul is young, but very old as well. So your life is to find out who you are and set people on a spiritual journey, and to learn from them as well. When I ask you who you are, I ask the soul who the man clothes. I ask you who you are, not what you have done. Think about it, little brother." I never saw him again after that day. I doubted if I'd even met him, or if he'd really existed. Nobody else claimed to have noticed him, and when I mentioned him they only vaguely knew that he had been there. They said he was a strange old guy, quiet. It was very strange, but I've taken the words of that man... thought about them. And when I stand next to a man or woman and call them an equal... it is the presense of the Creator... no... the divinity of them that I address. And I only ask them... who are you again? | | |

<"Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh, and cruel. But that's why there's us. Champions. It doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world were as it should be, to show it what it can be"><"Grasshopper, be yourself. And never fear thus to be naked to the eyes of others. Yet, know that man so often masks himself. That what is simple is rarely understood. The dust of truth swirls, and seeks its own cracks of entry. And a tree falling in the forest, without ears to hear, makes no sound. Yet it falls." -Master Po>
